It is easy to mistake 'bloating' or water retention for gaining fat. Many of us have adopted 'detox' plans and the like - to find that we lose several kilograms within the first week or two. In most cases, this initial stage is loss of water retention - realistically, one can only lose a maximum of 1kg of fat-related weight per week. Excess weight through bloating is often confused with excess fat. However, to tackle fat around the middle effectively, the best approach is to deal with bloating first.
