Spot reduction is the belief made popular by many exercise gimmicks you see on infomercials that by exercising specific body parts you can reduce fat in that specific area. For example you may say by performing a high number of crunches you will burn fat of your stomach area. New studies have shown that high reps of exercise in a specific area increases blood flow to the subcutaneous fat cells and lipolysis (release of fat) in that area.
