It is not easy being a kid, especially when you are carrying a few
extra pounds too. While the city has tried to stem the problem of
childhood obesity with more fruit carts may convert some kids from Big
Mac in broccoli, while others, like Lawrence Madsen, need a little more
' a hand-shaped.
Laurent, 17 years old, born and raised in
Manhattan, was so determined to drop his excess baggage, he jumped in
the city and included weight loss boarding school. "Losing weight is a
matter of choice, and you can make good choices," says Lawrence, who
has lost 90 pounds at the Academy Wellspring more than a year and is
still maintaining a healthy weight.
Wellspring Academy, just
outside Fresno, California, opens its doors to people ages 13 to 24.
Currently, the screening locations in the north for a school to open in
June, the Academy teaches children to change their entire lifestyle,
rather than putting them on a diet. And Lawrence is proof that a method
aimed at long-term changes can work.
"I used to get food
from a lathered-up vinaigrette sauce or heavy, but now I know better
and I can make better choices for myself," says Lawrence, who became a
senior Calhoun, the Graduate School of the West Side.
The
boy entered Wellspring, which has about 100 students, insecure and
reserved, but at the end of his stay of seven months, his newfound
confidence and made him the charm of the staff selection for future
tours initiation students.
"Now he's more confident and
ready to move forward with his life," says his father, Steve Madsen,
who notes that her son is the idea of going to school. "It is
definitely committed to what he has learned. "
How, then,
the working method? No spent eight hours a day in the gym or severely
restricting food, but by following a few simple principles: Eat less
than 20 grams of fat per day (the average American eats about 75
grams), not by walking 10000 day (the average is around 3000), to
monitor all meals and exercise by holding a newspaper - and find the
root causes of excess.
"In the past, I have tried a lot of
other methods. But at the time, I made an apology when I really just do
not bother to do [them], and now I realize that it was my fault, "says
