When the children were in the fifth grade, their
parents conducted surveys on what children ate. Six months later, in
sixth grade, children have taken a standardized test literacy, which
included reading and writing.

The children with the healthiest diets were more likely to pass the test, compared with those whose diets poor.


The results held when the researchers considered other factors,
including family income, parents, educational level and marital status
of the student, sex, and whether students lived in urban areas or
rural.

The results have not been touched by the children of weight. What matters is the quality of the diet, rather than its size.


Other research has emphasized the importance of eating a good breakfast
before school. But, lunch, dinner and snacks will also count, Veugelers
team notes.

The study does not prove that the diet to get
the grades. And it is not clear whether the findings apply to all
children. But eating healthfully did no harm...

The review also included eight studies of the weight loss drug orlistat, sold under the brand name Xenical, Meridia.

reduced body weight, it can even raise or lower blood pressure," write
Horvath and colleagues.

and should not be given to patients with uncontrolled or poorly
controlled hypertension...

Seven of these studies focused on examined diet, not drugs.


Together, the studies of 1,632 patients. Some patients were assigned to

received two different diets during their stay in the specialized
Rowett Human Nutrition Unit. Both schemes have a high protein content
(30% of the energy from the diet), but they differ in the amount of
carbohydrates: A diet low in carbohydrates was (4%) and the other
contained a moderate amount of carbohydrates (35% of total energy
value).

"Our volunteers have found the two regimes to be
just as palatable, but they were less hungry on the high-protein diet
low in carbohydrates compared to food containing high protein content,
but moderate amounts of carbohydrates, "said Dr. Alex Johnstone,
Rowett's weight loss expert who led the study.

"Weight loss
during the two periods of four weeks of study was greater on the
high-protein diet low in carbohydrates, with an average of 6.3
kilograms per person, compared to 4.3 kilograms on diet moderate in
carbohydrates, "said Dr Johnstone.

An important part of this
study was to dismantle the physiological mechanisms of this type of
diet. It is well known that when people eat diets low in carbohydrates,
in a relatively short time, their body has to switch from using glucose

I had no stomach stapling or surgery
(although I think it's OK). I did it to the former with diet and
exercise.

I felt a little cursed grow. Why me? Why? I ate
too much, and he did not get enough exercise. I spent too many hours
watching television. These days I see people fat everywhere, but you

Weight loss boarding allows teens shed bad habits

It is not easy being a kid, especially when you are carrying a few
extra pounds too. While the city has tried to stem the problem of
childhood obesity with more fruit carts may convert some kids from Big
Mac in broccoli, while others, like Lawrence Madsen, need a little more

Laurent, 17 years old, born and raised in
Manhattan, was so determined to drop his excess baggage, he jumped in

reserved, but at the end of his stay of seven months, his newfound
