The average consumer throws away 16 pounds of metal cans, 130 pounds of plastic and 230 pounds of paper each year just from food packaging! While some of this is recyclable - not contributing to this cycle is one of the best forms of eco-activity easily adopted by all of us. Never mind the thousands of unreclycable flimsy bags we bring all the stuff home in every day. Sadly, this all adds up to the real-life manifestation of garbage in - garbage out. Imagine the revolution in our bodies, our homes, and our landfills that switching to living foods would cause: carrots tied in a bunch and apples not already sauced, tuna with gills and fresh beets attached to their greens (great in soups, by the way).
