Medicare may pay more for weight loss surgery After a study found that bariatric surgery helped reverse diabetes in obese people, Medicare is considering expanding payment for the treatment. The government health plan for the elderly already pays for surgery in the case of morbid obesity, but the agency’s website says it will consider scientific evidence on diabetes treatment before making a decision about how the procedure should be covered and under what circumstances payment would be allowed
